    Sodium Hexametaphosphate (SHMP)

Premium Sodium Hexametaphosphate for Food, Industrial & Water Treatment Applications

Sodium Hexametaphosphate (SHMP) is a high-performance inorganic phosphate compound with the chemical formula Na₆[(PO₃)₆]. It is a white, free-flowing powder known for its excellent sequestering, emulsifying, dispersing, water-softening, and stabilizing properties.

Commercial sodium hexametaphosphate may contain a distribution of sodium metaphosphate polymers, with the hexamer being the principal component. For this reason, commercial SHMP is sometimes more accurately described as sodium polymetaphosphate.

Our Sodium Hexametaphosphate is available in Food Grade and Technical Grade, manufactured to meet demanding quality and performance requirements across food processing, water treatment, chemical manufacturing, and other industrial applications.

    What Is Sodium Hexametaphosphate?

Sodium Hexametaphosphate, commonly abbreviated as SHMP, is a sodium polyphosphate widely used for its ability to bind metal ions and improve the stability and performance of formulations.

It is a white, water-soluble inorganic phosphate powder that provides excellent sequestration and dispersing performance. SHMP can interact with calcium, magnesium, and other metal ions, making it particularly valuable in water treatment, food processing, detergents, ceramics, chemical processing, and industrial formulations.

Because of its multifunctional properties, Sodium Hexametaphosphate is also widely known as a water softener, sequestrant, dispersing agent, emulsifier, stabilizer, and processing aid.

    Food-Grade Sodium Hexametaphosphate

Food Grade SHMP is used in food processing and beverage applications where phosphate functionality is required. Its emulsifying, stabilizing, moisture-retention, and sequestration properties make it suitable for a variety of formulations.

Depending on the applicable food regulations and permitted use levels, SHMP may be used in applications such as:

    • Processed cheese and cheese products

    • Cheese powders and cheese dips

    • Canned and processed dairy products

    • Meat and seafood processing

    • Fish and fish fillet products

    • Processed egg products

    • Salad dressings and sauces

    • Frozen desserts and ice cream

    • Fruit preparations and jellies

    • Beverage and drink formulations

    • Breakfast cereals and other processed foods

SHMP can help improve texture, product stability, moisture retention, emulsification, and processing consistency.

    Industrial Applications of SHMP

    1. Water Treatment & Water Softening

Sodium Hexametaphosphate is widely used in water-treatment applications because it can sequester calcium and magnesium ions, helping reduce the effects of hard water. It can also help control mineral deposits and improve water quality in certain industrial systems.

    2. Chemical Manufacturing

SHMP serves as a functional phosphate raw material in chemical processing. It can be used as a sequestrant, dispersant, stabilizer, and processing agent in a variety of formulations.

SHMP can also be reacted with sodium fluoride to produce sodium monofluorophosphate (MFP), an important industrial phosphate compound.

    3. Dyeing & Textile Processing

Because of its water-softening and sequestration properties, Sodium Hexametaphosphate can be used in certain dyeing, textile, and finishing processes to help manage hardness ions and improve processing conditions.

    4. Detergents & Cleaning Formulations

SHMP can function as a builder, dispersant, and water-conditioning agent, helping bind hardness ions and improve the performance of cleaning formulations.

    5. Ceramic & Industrial Processing

Its dispersing and deflocculating properties make SHMP useful in selected ceramic, mineral-processing, pigment, and industrial slurry applications, where maintaining suspension stability and controlling particle interactions are important.

    Why Choose Our Sodium Hexametaphosphate?

Our SHMP is available in both Technical Grade and Food Grade to support different application requirements. The product combines high phosphate purity with controlled levels of water-insoluble matter, heavy metals, iron, and other specified impurities.

Whether you require Food Grade Sodium Hexametaphosphate for food processing or Technical Grade SHMP for industrial applications, water treatment, chemical manufacturing, or textile processing, our product is designed to provide reliable performance and consistent quality.
