Span 80 is a lipophilic non‑ionic surfactant, produced by esterification of dehydrated sorbitol with oleic acid, belonging to sorbitan fatty acid ester family. ‑ Appearance: Amber to brown‑yellow viscous oily liquid with faint fatty odor. ‑ HLB value: 4.3, classic water‑in‑oil (W/O) emulsifier. ‑ Solubility: Insoluble in water, dispersible in hot water; soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate, mineral oil, hot oils and other organic solvents. ‑ Typical specifications: Acid value ≤8 mgKOH/g; Saponification value 145‑160 mgKOH/g; Hydroxyl value 190‑215 mgKOH/g; Moisture ≤2.0%. ‑ Compatibility: Compatible with non‑ionic, anionic and cationic surfactants, often compounded with Tween series. Prone to hydrolysis under strong acid or strong‑alkali conditions. ‑ Grades available: Industrial grade, Food grade, Pharmaceutical grade.

Key Properties

Excellent performance on emulsification, dispersion, wetting, stabilization, lubrication and anti‑rust. Good emulsifying capacity for oil‑phase systems to form stable W/O emulsions.

Applications

Agrochemical: Emulsifier for pesticide EC formulations, compound with other surfactants to improve dispersion and penetration.
Emulsion Explosive: Core emulsifier for mining emulsion explosives.
Cosmetic & Pharmaceutical: Emulsifier for W/O cream, ointment and skin‑care products; pharmaceutical excipient for topical preparations.
Textile: Component for synthetic fiber spin finish, acts as lubricant, softener and antistatic agent.
Food Industry (Food grade): Food emulsifier for margarine, bakery, candy, vegetable‑protein drinks; coating agent for fruit & vegetable preservation.
Other industries: Dispersant for coatings & inks; oil‑field auxiliary; anti‑rust & lubricating additive for metal‑working fluid; anti‑fogging agent for plastic film.

Packing & Storage

‑ Packing: 200kg iron drum. ‑ Storage: Keep tightly sealed in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from strong oxidants and direct sunlight. ‑ Shelf life: 24 months under original sealed condition.
