Keratin has high mechanical strength and chemical stability. It is mainly composed of sulfur-rich amino acids (such as cysteine) to form a complex structure cross-linked by disulfide bonds. Keratin has a wide range of molecular weights, usually between 40-70 kDa. It appears as a white to light yellow solid (such as hair, nails, etc.).
