Description
Keratins are a type of fibrous structural protein that is widely found in the hair, nails, feathers, horns, hooves and other structures of animals. Keratin has high mechanical strength and chemical stability. It is mainly composed of sulfur-rich amino acids (such as cysteine) to form a complex structure cross-linked by disulfide bonds. Keratin has a wide range of molecular weights, usually between 40-70 kDa. It appears as a white to light yellow solid (such as hair, nails, etc.). It is insoluble in water, but soluble in certain special solvents (such as thiol solvents). It has high thermal stability, but decomposes at high temperatures.

Keratins Use and Manufacturing
In cosmetics and personal care, Keratins are used in hair care products (such as shampoo, conditioner) to repair damaged hair. As a nail strengthener, it enhances the strength and toughness of nails. In the medical field, Keratins are used in wound dressings and tissue engineering to promote wound healing. As a drug carrier, it is used for sustained release of drugs. In the textile industry, Keratins are used to make high-strength fiber materials such as wool and feather products. As a substitute for natural fibers, it is used in the development of environmentally friendly textiles. As a food additive, Keratins are used to improve the texture and taste of food (such as thickeners in low-fat foods). In biomaterials, Keratins are used to make biodegradable materials such as films and coatings. As bio-inks in 3D printing and tissue engineering. In agriculture, it is used as a carrier for slow-release fertilizers to improve fertilizer utilization.
Drug Function and Efficacy
A key structural protein in hair that strengthens the hair shaft, improves resilience, and reduces brittleness.
