1. Physical Properties

A colorless, transparent liquid with a strong, pungent odor. It is miscible with water and ethanol in any proportion. It is highly volatile.

2. Chemical Properties

Weakly basic: Only a small amount of ammonium hydroxide dissociates to form OH⁻. It exhibits the general properties of a base, turning phenolphthalein red and litmus blue, and reacts with acids to form ammonium salts. Concentrated ammonia solution produces white fumes when exposed to concentrated hydrochloric acid or concentrated nitric acid.

‌Instability: Ammonium hydroxide decomposes very easily when exposed to light or heat, releasing ammonia gas and water.

‌Precipitation: It is a commonly used precipitating agent that reacts with various metal ions, such as aluminum and iron, to form insoluble hydroxide precipitates.

‌Complexation: It forms complexes with metal ions such as silver, copper, and zinc; when an excess of ammonia solution is present, the resulting precipitate redissolves to form complex ions.

‌Corrosiveness‌: It is highly corrosive to copper, less corrosive to steel, and has some corrosive effect on cement and wood.

‌Weak Redox Properties‌: It can be oxidized by strong oxidizing agents, while the +1 valence hydrogen in the ammonia molecule can also oxidize some strong reducing agents.

3. Main Applications

Industrial and Chemical Sector: Used as a nitrogen source in the production of nitric acid, ammonium salts, urea, and other fertilizer products; serves as a neutralizing agent and catalyst in organic synthesis.

Metal Processing Industry: Used for degreasing, defatting, and rust prevention on metal surfaces; also serves as a leaching agent in non-ferrous metal smelting.

‌Environmental Protection: Neutralizes acidic gases in flue gas desulfurization systems to remove harmful pollutants such as sulfur dioxide; it is also used in wastewater treatment to precipitate heavy metal ions.

‌Textile and Rubber Industries: Serves as a pH adjuster in printing and dyeing processes to enhance dyeing results; acts as an additive during the vulcanization of natural rubber to delay rubber aging.

‌Pharmaceutical Sector‌: Serves as a pharmaceutical excipient, acting as a pH adjuster for liquid formulations and an alkaloid leaching agent; it is also used as a synthetic intermediate for certain drugs.

‌Agricultural Sector‌: When diluted, it is applied directly as a nitrogen fertilizer to supplement nitrogen in crops; it also neutralizes acidic soil and regulates soil pH.

The product strictly complies with the GB/T 2961-2014 national standard, accompanied by a complete set of MSDS, commodity inspection reports, and hazardous packaging certificates, and meets EU REACH import and export requirements. Standard packaging includes 200 kg galvanized closed-top steel drums and 1,000 L IBC containers. For large volumes, bulk transport via tank containers is available. Storing and transporting the product in a sealed, light-protected environment effectively delays oxidation and discoloration. Supply is stable and ample, supporting full-container and consolidated shipments for international trade, and meeting global chemical procurement and custom fine chemical production needs.
