DL-Menthol

    DL-Menthol, also known as racemic menthol, is a synthetic racemic mixture of equal parts of the D- and L-isomers of menthol . It appears as a colorless crystalline solid with a characteristic minty odor and a cooling taste . While the naturally occurring L-menthol provides a sharp, intense cooling sensation, DL-menthol offers a more moderate cooling profile and is produced synthetically, typically by hydrogenation of thymol . It is valued for its excellent cooling sensation, refreshing properties, mild minty flavor, and broad compatibility with various formulations. It is highly soluble in organic solvents and oils but only slightly soluble in water .
