Product Overview
Pyrogallol (1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene) is a naturally occurring and synthetically produced phenolic compound. It is supplied as a high-purity analytical reference standard (HPLC≥98%) for analytical, biochemical and industrial research. Pyrogallol is a strong reducing agent and is widely used in oxygen absorption, photographic developers, and analytical chemistry.

Synthetic Process
Pyrogallol is produced industrially by decarboxylation of gallic acid under heat, or by hydroxylation of phenol derivatives. The crude product is purified by sublimation or recrystallization to achieve ≥98% purity.

Mechanism of Action
As a strong reducing agent, Pyrogallol readily undergoes oxidation, absorbing oxygen from the air. This property makes it useful as an oxygen scavenger and in analytical determinations. It also forms complexes with metal ions and serves as a reagent in colorimetric assays.
