It can be used as a monomer to synthesize specialty polymers exhibiting stimulus-responsive behavior. Being biocompatible, it is suitable for applications in drug delivery systems, tissue engineering, and controlled release. It also finds use in secondary batteries, adhesives, coatings, biosensors, and water treatment.
Application
N-vinylformamide is used for:
· As a monomer to synthesize poly(N-vinylformamide) (PNVF)-based hydrogels for controlled drug delivery.
· Synthesizing aqueous binders for lithium-ion battery anodes, such as Li₄Ti₅O₁₂ (LTO), thereby enhancing electrode stability and specific capacity.
· Producing biocompatible coatings for medical devices.
· Preparing polypropylene membranes for the continuous removal of organic micropollutants from water; N-vinylformamide enhances the membrane's adsorption affinity by inducing multiple hydrophilic and hydrogen-bonding sites on its surface.
