It is colorless, odorless, sweet and sticky liquid, is the simplest of diglycol. Can be intersoluble with water and acetone, slightly soluble in ether, and insoluble in petroleum hydrocarbon and oil.
Ethylene Glycol (also known as glycol, abbreviated as EG) has the chemical formula (CH2OH)2 and is the simplest diol. Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, sweet-tasting liquid with low toxicity to animals. It is miscible with water and acetone but has lower solubility in ethers. It is used as a solvent, antifreeze, and a raw material for synthesizing polyester. The polymer of ethylene glycol, PEG, is a phase transfer catalyst and is also used in cell fusion.

Application

MEG is an important basic organic raw material in petrochemicals, mainly used in the production of PET polyester, antifreeze, unsaturated polyester resins, lubricants, plasticizers, non-ionic surfactants, explosives, etc. It is also used in coatings, photographic developer fluids, brake fluids, inks, and as a solvent. MEG ethers are used to produce special solvents. It has very wide applications.
