Aconitic acid (1-propene-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid) is a naturally occurring tricarboxylic acid found in various plants, particularly in Aconitum and sugar cane. It is supplied as a high-purity reference standard (HPLC≥98%) for phytochemical and analytical research.

Synthetic Process
The compound is obtained from natural plant sources through solvent extraction followed by multi-step purification, including crystallization and chromatography, to achieve ≥98% purity. It can also be prepared by dehydration of citric acid.

Mechanism of Action
As a tricarboxylic acid, aconitic acid serves as a metabolic intermediate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (as cis-aconitate). It is used as a research tool for studying organic acid metabolism and as an analytical standard.
