Product Overview
Hydrogen chloride ethanol solution is a colorless liquid containing approximately 1.25 M hydrogen chloride in ethanol. It is supplied at AR grade as a derivatization reagent for gas chromatography (GC), particularly for alkylation reactions. It has a density of 0.825 g/mL at 20°C and a flash point of 16°C.
Synthetic Process
The solution is prepared by dissolving anhydrous hydrogen chloride gas in anhydrous ethanol under controlled conditions, followed by standardization to the target concentration.
Mechanism of Action
As an acidic derivatization reagent, it catalyzes alkylation reactions for GC analysis. The hydrogen chloride provides the acidic environment necessary for esterification and other derivatization transformations.
