Synthetic Process
Cytosine is produced by chemical synthesis from uracil or by the hydrolysis of nucleic acids, followed by purification.

Cytosine forms three hydrogen bonds with guanine in DNA/RNA duplexes, contributing to genetic information storage. It can undergo methylation to form 5-methylcytosine, an epigenetic mark involved in gene regulation.
