12-Hydroxystearic acid is a hydroxy fatty acid derived from castor oil. It acts as an efficient thickener, gelling agent and internal lubricant. It improves thermal stability, water resistance and shear strength for lithium-based greases. It also serves as rheology modifier, release agent and chemical intermediate for plastics, rubber, coatings and cosmetic formulations such as lipsticks and deodorant sticks. It is widely applied to adjust viscosity and build stable oleogel structures in anhydrous systems.
