Product Detail

Salicylic acid, also known as willow acid, is stronger in acidity than benzoic acid. It darkens in color under sunlight, forms a purple-red chelate when it meets iron ions, and reacts with ferric chloride to give a purple color. It's not stable with heat and easily decarboxylates to phenol when heated to 200°C. In nature, salicylic acid mostly exists in the form of methyl esters in birch bark oil, where it can make up to 96%. It's also found in cinnamon oil, violet oil, and wintergreen oil. Free

Separated from strong oxidants.Salicylic acid should be stored in well-closed containers. Salicylic acid collodion should be stored in tight containers at 15-30 deg C. Because the collodion is flammable, it should not be stored near heat or an open flame. Salicylic acid plaster should be stored in well-closed containers, preferably at 15-30 deg C. The Trans-Ver-Sal plaster should be stored at a temperature less than 37.8 deg C.
