Description
Eperisone Hydrochloride ((±)-Eperisone hydrochloride) is an antispastic agent used for treatment of diseases characterized by muscle stiffness and pain. It works by relaxing both skeletal muscles and vascularsmooth muscles, thus demonstrating avariety of effects such as reduction ofmyotonia, improvement of circulationand suppression of the pain reflex. Eperisone Hydrochloride ((±)-Eperisone hydrochloride) is a centrally acting muscle relaxant inhibiting the pain reflex pathway, having a

Drug Information
Drugs used to prevent SEIZURES or reduce their severity. (See all compounds classified as Anticonvulsants.)|A heterogeneous group of drugs used to produce muscle relaxation, excepting the neuromuscular blocking agents. They have their primary clinical and therapeutic uses in the treatment of muscle spasm and immobility associated with strains, sprains, and injuries of the back and, to a lesser degree, injuries to the neck. They have been used also for the treatment of a variety of clinical conditions that have in common only the presence of skeletal muscle hyperactivity, for example, the muscle spasms that can occur in MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS. (From Smith and Reynard, Textbook of Pharmacology, 1991, p358) (See all compounds classified as Muscle Relaxants, Central.)|A class of drugs that act by selective inhibition of calcium influx through cellular membranes. (See all compounds classified as Calcium Channel Blockers.)|Agents that inhibit the actions of the parasympathetic nervous system. The major group of drugs used therapeutically for this purpose is the MUSCARINIC ANTAGONISTS. (See all compounds classified as Parasympatholytics.)|Drugs used to cause dilation of the blood vessels. (See all compounds classified as Vasodilator Agents.)

Drug Function and Efficacy
Central skeletal muscle relaxants can inhibit decerebrate tonicity and reflex potentials and reduce the sensitivity of muscle spindles; they have the effects of calcium antagonists and block muscle sympathetic nerves, dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow; they also have analgesic effects at the spinal cord level.
