Description

Barium hydride is an inorganic compound that exists in the form of white or gray crystals and has strong reducing properties. Barium hydride is stable at room temperature, but it decomposes and releases hydrogen at high temperatures. Barium hydride can react with water to produce hydrogen and barium hydroxide. When it is mixed with solid oxidants such as halides or chromates, it is easy to explode. Its density is 4.15g/cm3 and its melting point is 675℃.

Barium hydride is mainly used as a strong reducing agent, hydrogenating agent, and vacuum tube degassing agent. It can be used as a raw material for the preparation of metallic barium or barium compounds. It can be used as a hydrogen source in certain chemical reactions, such as hydrogenation reactions. Barium hydride can be obtained by the direct reaction of barium with hydrogen: Ba + H2 → BaH2
