Lutetium oxide (Lu2O3) Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

The extraction method uses mixed rare earth containing Y2O350% and CeO2 about 4% obtained by decomposing brown yttrium-niobium ore, and cerium-containing rare earth nitrate solution as raw materials. The N263-LiNO3 system is used for extraction and grouping to obtain yttrium-rich rare earth. N263-heavy solvent-NH4scN system is used to extract and purify yttrium. The raffinate is yttrium-rich rare earth. Thulium, ytterbium, and lutetium heavy rare earth enter the organic phase. Then, N263-heavy solvent extraction is used to group the lutetium and lutetium into groups. Thulium ytterbium enters the water phase, after separation, it is further stripped with hydrochloric acid to make the lutetium enter the water phase, and then precipitated, filtered, and burned with oxalic acid to produce lutetium oxide. Its Lu2(C2O4)3→Lu2O3+3CO2+3CO

Uses

Lutetium Oxide, also called Lutecia, is the important raw materials for laser crystals, and also have specialized uses in ceramics, glass, phosphors, lasers. Lutetium Oxide also be used as catalysts in cracking, alkylation, hydrogenation, and polymerization. Stable Lutetium can be used as catalysts in petroleum cracking in refineries and can also be used in alkylation, hydrogenation, and polymerization applications.
