Intermediate 2; 1-(2-bromo-6-hydroxypherjy.)ethanone; The mixture of 3-Bromophenyl acetate (36.0 g, 167 mmol) and uohydrous AlClIntermediate 2; 1-(2-bromo-6-hydroxypherjy.)ethanone; The mixture of 3-Bromophenyl acetate (36.0 g, 167 mmol) and uohydrous AlClGeneral procedure: POCl3 (12 mL, 129 mmol) was added slowly over 30 min to a wellstirred and cooled (0'5 °C) solution of 1-(4-bromo-2-hydroxyphenyl)ethan-1-one (11a; 5.0 g, 23.25 mmol) in N, N-dimethylformamide(40 mL). After stirring at room temperature for 17 h, the suspension waspoured into crushed ice and maintained at 0 °C for 1 h. The precipitatedsolids were collected, washed with water, and dried to give 12a (5.2 g, 88percent) as a light orange solid.
