CHEMPACIFIC 38141 Use and Manufacturing

To a solution of 4-methoxy-2-methylpyridine 1-oxide (500g, 3.59mmoI) in acetic acid (l0mL) was added Fe (602g, 10.79mmol) at rt. The reaction mixture was stirred at 120 00 for 2h. The TLC showed reaction to be complete. The reaction mixture was cooled to rt and filtered through a celite pad. The filtrate was diluted with H20 (5OmL) and extracted with EtOAc (3x5OmL). The organic layer was washed with H20 (lOOmL), brine (lOOmL), dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 4-methoxy-2-methylpyridine as a brown oil.
