Description

DL-Tryptophan is an endogenous metabolite.

Solid

Tryptophan is an alpha-amino acid that is alanine bearing an indol-3-yl substituent at position 3. It has a role as a Daphnia magna metabolite. It is an alpha-amino acid, an aminoalkylindole, a polar amino acid and an aromatic amino acid. It contains a 1H-indol-3-ylmethyl group. It is a conjugate base of a tryptophanium. It is a conjugate acid of a tryptophanate. It is a tautomer of a tryptophan zwitterion.

White crystals. Slightly soluble in water; stable in alkaline solution; decomposed by strong acids.

Tryptophan is the precursor for 5-hydroxy-tryptamin and an essential α-amino acid. DL-Tryptophan exists as a zwitterion during crystallization.

DL-Tryptophan Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Using indole and α-acetamidoacrylic acid as raw materials, after the reaction in glacial acetic acid-acetic anhydride medium is complete, NaOH is adjusted to basicity, extracted with ether, and then extracted 3 times with dilute sodium hydroxide, combined with sodium hydroxide solution, added A few grains of sodium bisulfite, cooled to 5 ℃, adjusted to neutral with concentrated hydrochloric acid, precipitated acetyl-DL-tryptophan, refluxed in 10% sodium hydroxide solution, concentrated and crystallized to obtain DL-tryptophan.

Uses

An amino acid precursor of serotonin and melatonin.

DL-Tryptophan is an amino acid precursor of serotonin and melatonin. It is a dietary supplement for use as an antidepressant, anxiolytic, and sleep aid. DL-tryptophan also can be used as feed nutrition enhancer, antioxidants.
