Description

Manganic acid (H2MnO4), barium salt (1:1) is an inorganic compound with dark green-blue hexagonal crystals. Its structure is the same as that of barium sulfate. The molecular formula of manganic acid (H2MnO4), barium salt (1:1) is BaMnO4, and its molecular weight is 256.28. Barium manganate can oxidize alcohols to carbonyls, diols to lactones, thiols to disulfides, aromatic amines to diazo compounds, hydroquinone to p-benzoquinone, benzylamine to benzaldehyde, etc. Manganic acid (H2MnO4), barium salt (1:1) is also a lanthanide metal with high antibiological properties.

Manganic acid (H2MnO4), barium salt (1:1) Use and Manufacturing

Uses

Manganic acid (H2MnO4), barium salt (1:1) can be prepared by the double decomposition reaction of potassium manganate and barium chloride: BaCl2 + K2MnO4 → 2 KCl + BaMnO4. Manganic acid (H2MnO4), barium salt (1:1) is an oxidizing agent useful for the selective oxidation of diols. As an oxidizing agent, it outperforms manganese dioxide. Manganic acid (H2MnO4), barium salt (1:1) is an insoluble compound with a deep blue color. Because of this, it was often used as a blue pigment in the past, usually mixed with barium sulfate to lighten the color, called manganese blue. It is no longer used today, replaced by pigments with a manganese blue hue.
