Drug Information

LIQUID: Irritating to skin and eyes. If swallowed will cause nausea and vomiting. (USCG, 1999)

INHALATION: move from contaminated atmosphere; if symptoms of respiratory discomfort persist, see a physician. EYES: immediately flush with large quantities of running water for a minimum of 15 minutes; obtain medical attention if irritation persists. SKIN: immediately flush affected areas with water; obtain medical attention if irritation persists. INGESTION: give large amounts of water or warm salty water to induce vomiting; if this measure is unsuccessful, vomiting may be induced by tickling the back of the patient's throat with a finger; vomiting should be encouraged until vomitus is clear; obtain medical attention if abdominal discomfort persists. (USCG, 1999)

INHALATION CAUSES NONSPECIFIC IRRITATION OF THE UPPER RESP TRACT. CONTACT WITH LIQUID MAY CAUSE CORNEAL DAMAGE IN EYES AND LOCAL IRRITATION OF SKIN. Titanium tetrabutoxide Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Derived from the reaction of titanium tetrachloride and butanol. Cool 153kg of dry industrial benzene to below 20°C, add 22.8kg of titanium tetrachloride under stirring, and the temperature shall not exceed 45-50°C. After the addition, when the temperature drops below 15°C, the ammonia gas is introduced. Slowly add 32.5 kg of butanol at 20°C and pH 9-10, and continue to pass ammonia for about 1 hour until the pH value remains 9-10. Continue to stir for 2h, filter after standing, and rinse the filter cake with a small amount of benzene. Recover benzene from the filtrate and filter to obtain about 22-25kg crude product. Fractional distillation under reduced pressure, collecting 195°C (1.33kPa fraction, which is the finished product of tetrabutyl titanate. Uses

Used in transesterification reaction, used in coatings to improve heat resistance (heat-resistant to 500°C), improve the adhesion of coatings, rubber and plastics to metal surfaces, and also used as a condensation catalyst and crosslinking agent.
