Butyl acetate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

1. From acetic acid and n-butanol in the presence of sulfuric acid esterification derived. Butanol, acetic acid and sulfuric acid into the esterification reactor in proportion, esterification at 120 ℃, dehydration by reflux, the esterification of the control acid value of 0.5 or less, obtained after the crude ester into the distillation kettle by distillation, Condensation, separation reflux dehydration, recovery alcohol ester, and finally distilled in the following 126 ℃ derived products. Production process has a continuous method and intermittent method, depending on the scale of production may be different. Consumption of raw materials fixed: acetic acid (98%) 540kg / t, butanol 650kg / t. In recent years, the development and application of solid acid, heteropoly acid instead of sulfuric acid catalyst to reduce corrosion of the research reports are increasing, but has not yet been successfully used for industrial production reports.
2 .from acetic acid and n-butanol in the presence of sulfuric acid esterification derived. Refining method: generally contain free acetic acid and butanol. If the raw material is produced by the fermentation process still contains a small amount of isobutyl acetate, isobutyl alcohol, amyl acetate, hexyl acetate and so on. When refined with sodium bicarbonate or saturated solution of sodium carbonate washing, and then saturated with sodium chloride washing, anhydrous potassium carbonate, sodium sulfate or magnesium sulfate after distillation. The remaining water and alcohol form an azeotrope with the ester to become an initial fraction removed. Other refining methods are the first distillation, and then add a small amount of potassium permanganate reflux, until the potassium permanganate does not disappear until the purple, anhydrous calcium sulfate drying, filtration, and then distillation.
3. Industrial butyl acetate distillation, ultra-clean filter, ultra-clean can be installed.
4. Preparation: reflux condenser equipped with the reaction flask, adding 98% of formic acid 61g (1.33mol), absolute ethanol
(1) 31 g (0.67 mol) of a zeolite was heated to reflux for 24 h. To distill the distillation device to collect fractions below 62 ℃, slip out of the saturated sodium chloride, and then followed by saturated sodium bicarbonate, saturated sodium chloride solution washing. Anhydrous sodium sulfate drying, fractionation, collecting 53 ~ 54 ° C fraction, in a formate (2) yield 72%.

Uses

N-Butyl acetate, also known as butyl ethanoate, is an ester which is a colorless flammable liquid at room temperature. Butyl acetate is found in many types of fruit, where along with other chemicals it imparts characteristic flavors and has a sweet smell of banana or apple. It is used as a synthetic fruit flavoring in foods such as candy, ice cream, cheeses, and baked goods. Butyl acetate is often used as a high-boiling solvent of moderate polarity. The other three isomers of butyl acetate are: isobutyl acetate, tert-butyl acetate, and sec-butyl acetate.
