An oil containing a high percentage of vitamin A. High-potency livers, as from cod, shark, and halibut, contain from 100,000 to 1,500,000 A units/g. The oil is extracted by cooking the livers under low-pressure steam and removing the oil, which floats on

For dry eye disease caused by vitamin A deficiency, Bitot~"s spots, corneal softening, and night blindness; for pregnant or nursing women, poor eating habits, receiving parenteral nutrition, severe malnutrition; for liver damage, cirrhosis, obstruction Jaundice; severe protein deficiency, etc. Long-term intake of vitamin A can lead to poisoning. Very large intake of vitamin A can cause acute poisoning, and excessive intake of vitamin D can cause hypercalcemia. People with urinary tract stones or weak constitutions should not take cod liver oil, beware of aggravating stone symptoms or poisoning. Pregnant women, asthma patients, diabetic patients, and patients taking anticoagulants are not suitable for taking.
