Description

Occurs in filamentous, grainy, granular, and powdered forms. It is colorless or slightly yel-low and may have a slight characteristic smell andtaste. Slowly soluble in water, forming a viscoussolution; insoluble in alcohol. Potassium alginate occurs as a white to yellowish, fibrous orgranular powder; it is almost odorless and tasteless.

Nearly odourless, white to yellowish fibrous or granular powder

Salts and esters of ALGINIC ACID that are used as HYDROGELS; DENTAL IMPRESSION MATERIALS, and as absorbent materials for surgical dressings (BANDAGES, HYDROCOLLOID). They are also used to manufacture MICROSPHERES and NANOPARTICLES for DIAGNOSTIC REAGENT KITS and DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS.

READILY SOL IN HOT OR COLD WATER

In the solid state, potassium alginate is a stable material that is notprone to microbial spoilage. Over time, a slow reduction in thedegree of polymerization can occur, which may be reflected in areduction in the viscosity of solutions. As both temperature andmoisture can impair the performance of potassium alginate, storagebelow 25°C is recommended.
Potassium alginate solutions are stable at pH 4–10; long-termstorage outside this range can result in depolymerization of thepolymer

Potassium alginate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

See sodium alginate. Finally, it is neutralized with potassium carbonate or potassium hydroxide solution to make the gel alkaline, and then dried to obtain the finished product.

Uses

As emulsification stabilizer and thickener, it can be used in various foods according to my country's regulations, and should be used in appropriate amount according to production needs. Uses: It is mainly used in impression materials such as facial masks and dental molds, as well as in the coatings of welding rods, as stabilizers for food and cosmetics; thickeners, emulsifiers, and gelling agents. Can be used for dairy products, canned fruits, sausage casings
