4-Nitrocinnamic acid Use and Manufacturing
The p-nitrocinnamonitrile, concentrated hydrochloric acid and water were heated to reflux for 8h, and left to stand overnight. The precipitate is filtered out, dissolved in hot 30% sodium hydroxide solution, the insoluble matter is filtered out, the filtrate is acidified with 50% sulfuric acid to precipitate the pyridine, filtered to obtain the crude product, and recrystallized with ethanol to obtain p-nitrocinnamic acid.
