1-(Diphenylmethyl) -3 -hydroxy azetidine (9.70 g) was suspended in 4.5M HCl in EtOAc (35 niL) at room temperature and stirred for 10 min. The solvent was then evaporated to dryness to give l-(diphenylmethyl)- 3-hydroxyazetidine hydrochloride (12.0 g, 100percent).
