Phenyllithium Use and Manufacturing

Uses

As a strong base, phenyllithium can replace acidic hydrogen atoms with lithium atoms to generate new organic lithium compounds. As a nucleophile, phenyllithium can react with carbonyl compounds (such as aldehydes and ketones) to generate alcohol compounds. Phenyllithium can react with organic halides to generate new organic lithium compounds, which are often used to synthesize complex molecules. In addition, phenyllithium can be used as an initiator for anionic polymerization to prepare specific polymers. It is also an important intermediate for the synthesis of fine chemicals such as drugs and pesticides. Phenyllithium can form complexes with transition metals for catalytic reactions or materials science.
