9-Bromophenanthrene Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Dissolve phenanthrene in dry carbon tetrachloride, heat to reflux, add bromine dropwise, and continue to reflux to exhaust the generated hydrogen bromide. The reaction solution was evaporated under reduced pressure to remove the solvent, and continued under reduced pressure distillation to collect the 177-190°C (0.16kPa) fraction, which is 9-bromophenanthrene, with a yield of 90%-94%.

Uses

It is a luminescent material that can fluoresce at short wavelengths and can be used as a molecular probe to detect the presence and reaction mechanism of other compounds.
