Methods of Manufacturing

Derived from the reaction of ethylene and iodine. Pass ethylene into the mixture of iodine and ethanol until the color of iodine disappears completely and needle-like crystals are produced. After the reaction is completed, filter, wash, and recrystallize the obtained crude product with ethanol to obtain 1, 2-diiodoethane.

Uses

Used in organic synthesis.
