Iodoethanol Use and Manufacturing
Derived from the reaction of chloroethanol and sodium iodide. The mixture of acetone and anhydrous sodium iodide was heated to reflux on a water bath, and chloroethanol was slowly added. After the addition, continue to reflux for 12h, cool, and filter out the sodium chloride crystals. Then add sodium iodide to the filtrate and continue to reflux for 4 hours, cool, filter, recover acetone, distill the residue under reduced pressure under the protection of nitrogen, and collect 85-88°C (3.33kPa) fractions to obtain 2-iodoethanol.
Used in organic synthesis.
