1-Methoxyheptane is a colorless oily liquid with a melting point of -94°C (estimated), a boiling point of 140.96°C (estimated), a density of 0.7862, a refractive index of 1.4073, and a molecular weight of 130.22800.
1-Methoxyheptane Use and Manufacturing
1-Methoxyheptane is prepared from n-heptyl chloride and sodium methoxide in a methanol solution. 1-Methoxyheptane is used as a fresh green note modifier in perfumes, especially in top notes of herbal or green floral perfumes. It mixes well with lavender, bayberry, fougere, etc. and can be mixed into apple-type bases or compositions. It is stable in soaps or powders, but requires solid fixation.
