-0.57
N-nitrosodimethylamine is a yellow oily liquid with a faint characteristic odor. Boiling point 151-153°C. Can reasonably be expected to be a carcinogen. Used as an antioxidant, as an additive for lubricants and as a softener of copolymers. An intermediate in 1,1-dimethylhydrazine production.

N-Nitrosodimethylamine Use and Manufacturing
245g of dimethylamine hydrochloride and hydrochloric acid were stirred and heated to 70-75°C, a slurry of 235g of sodium nitrite in 150ml of water was added, and hydrochloric acid was added to make the reactant just acidic. After the addition is completed, heat for 2h, then distill to near dryness, add water and evaporate to dryness, combine the distillate with 300g of potassium carbonate to saturate it, take the upper layer under reduced pressure and fractionate to obtain nearly 200g of N-nitrosodimethylamine, the yield is nearly 90 %.
Formerly in the production of rocket fuels; antioxidant; additive for lubricants; softener of copolymers.
