Description

ChEBI: A fatty acid anion 18:0 that is the conjugate base of stearic acid. Stearates have a variety of uses in the pharmaceutical industry. A salt or ester of stearic acid; an octadecanoate.


Erythromycin stearate is a very insoluble salt form of erythromycin. The water insolubility helps to mask the taste of the drug and enhances its stability in the stomach.
