Annato Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

The oil-soluble annatto orange is obtained by extracting the seed epidermis with food-grade vegetable oil. Or use organic solvents (according to FAO/WHO regulations, limited to acetone, dichloromethane, ethanol, n-hexane, methanol, or carbon dioxide) to extract the skin of the seeds, and after removing the solvent, dilute with food-grade vegetable oil. Water-soluble products are obtained by extracting the skin of the seed with an aqueous solution of alkali (sodium hydroxide or potassium), or by extracting the skin of the seed with an organic solvent (same as above), and after removing the solvent, it is obtained by hydrolysis in an aqueous solution of alkali (same as above). After spray drying, powder products are obtained.

Food coloring in dairy products, especially butter and cheese, flour confectionary, fish, meat products, soft drinks, snack foods and dry mixes.In wood stains, polish, and varnishes.Spice or condiment.Insect repellent.
