Excerpt from ERG Guide 129 [Flammable Liquids (Water-Miscible / Noxious)]: CAUTION: All these products have a very low flash point: Use of water spray when fighting fire may be inefficient. SMALL FIRE: Dry chemical, CO2, water spray or alcohol-resistant foam. Do not use dry chemical extinguishers to control fires involving nitromethane (UN1261) or nitroethane (UN2842). LARGE FIRE: Water spray, fog or alcohol-resistant foam. Do not use straight streams. Move containers from fire area if you can do it without risk. FIRE INVOLVING TANKS OR CAR/TRAILER LOADS: Fight fire from maximum distance or use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out. Withdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting safety devices or discoloration of tank. Eye: If this chemical contacts the eyes, immediately wash the eyes with large amounts of water, occasionally lifting the lower and upper lids. Get medical attention immediately. Contact lenses should not be worn when working with this chemical. Skin: If this chemical contacts the skin, immediately flush the contaminated skin with soap and water. If this chemical penetrates the clothing, immediately remove the clothing and flush the skin with water. If irritation persists after washing, get medical attention. Breathing: If a person breathes large amounts of this chemical, move the exposed person to fresh air at once. If breathing has stopped, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Cyclohexanethiol Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

It is obtained by condensation and hydrolysis of cyclohexanol. Add cyclohexanol, thiourea and hydrobromic acid (40% concentration) into a three-necked flask at a ratio of 1:1:25 mol, and stir and reflux for more than 50 hours at 100°C in a water bath. Then add 50% sodium hydroxide aqueous solution according to the amount of hydrobromic acid, heat and hydrolyze for 2-3h, take out and stand still to separate the oil layer. The water layer is acidified with dilute sulfuric acid, extracted with acetic anhydride, the extract is combined with the oil layer, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, distilled under reduced pressure, and collected 53-55°C (2.67kPa) fractions to obtain the finished product.
