Alizarin complexone Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Reaction by alizarin and iminodiacetic acid: 16g alizarin and 22.5g iminodiacetic acid are suspended in 30ml water and treated with 60ml aqueous solution containing 13.5g sodium hydroxide. While stirring, 10 ml of 37% formaldehyde was added dropwise. The mixture was diluted with water to 230ml. Heat to 75°C, add 7ml of 37% formaldehyde dropwise with stirring, and keep 14g of heat. Dilute to 750ml and treat with 5N hydrochloric acid at 45°C until no precipitation occurs. The crystal was filtered out to be crude product. Dissolve the crude product in distilled water, add sodium hydroxide solution to dissolve, then add hydrochloric acid to re-precipitate, filter, and wash to obtain pure product. Unreacted alizarin can be removed by ether extraction.

Uses

This probe is used for the determination of fluorine and other anions. ATA is also a potent inhibitor of protein-nucleic acid interactions.
