2, 4-Dibromo-5-nitropyridine Phosphorous oxybromide (5.73 g, 20 mmol) was added to a suspension of the product from Step 1 (1.70 g, 10 mmol) in acetonitrile (20 mL) at rt then heated to reflux for 3 h. The reaction mixture was cooled and carefully poured onto ice and sat. aq. K2C03 then extracted with EtOAc.
