3-Hydroxy-alpha-methyl-DL-tyrosine is a monocarboxylic acid and a member of benzenes.|An alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that has both central and peripheral nervous system effects. Its primary clinical use is as an antihypertensive agent.

Soluble in isopropanol, ethanol, and water.

Methyldopa oral suspension should be stored in tight, light-resistant containers at a temperature less than 26 deg C and protected from freezing. Methyldopa tablets should be stored in well-closed containers at a temperature less than 40 deg C, preferably at 15-30 deg C.
