Description

Muscone is the main active monomer of traditional Chinese medicine musk. Muscone inhibits NF-κB and NLRP3 inflammasome activation. Muscone remarkably decreases the levels of inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α and IL-6), and ultimately improves cardiac function and survival rate[1].

3-methylcyclopentadecanone

(±)-Muscone Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

There are many synthetic methods for muscone, and the raw materials can be cyclohexanone, butadiene, cyclopentadecanone and so on. The method that uses butadiene as the raw material is not one of the most researched and promising methods at present. It is obtained from butadiene to generate dodeca-1, 5, 9-triene, which is then hydrogenated and oxidized to Cyclododecanone can be further reacted to obtain musk ketone with a yield of 40%. Muscone is the main fragrance component of natural musk, generally containing 1.2%-1.4% of muscone. The natural musk is distilled by steam for several days, extracted with ether to distill the injection body, and made into semicarbazide, then refined, decomposed, and finally refined by distillation.

Uses

Used in medicine, musk spice, deodorant, etc.
