Girard's P reagent Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

The dry pyridine, ethyl chloroacetate and absolute ethanol were refluxed together for 3h to make a mixture of N-chloro-N-pyridine and absolute ethanol. The reaction was intensely exothermic and the product was immediately precipitated. Filtration and washing with ethanol gave Gerard's reagent P in 90% yield.

Uses

Girard’s reagent used in the identification and quantification of protein carbonylation as well as in the modification of nucleosides and nucleotides. Used in the preparation of potent photoactive agents.

Pyridinium, 1-(2-hydrazinyl-2-oxoethyl)-, chloride (1:1): ACTIVE
