Description
yellow or grey crystals Aluminum phosphide is a pyrophoric, dark gray or dark yellow crystalline solid
Characteristics
0
0.55080
Aluminum phosphide is a dark gray or dry, yellow, crystalline solid. It reacts with moisture to give phosphine, a flammable and poisonous gas. Normally, phosphine will spontaneously ignite upon contact with air. If there is an excess of water, the phosphine fire will not normally ignite any surrounding combustible material.

Solubility in water: reaction
Extremely reactive with air, moisture and compounds containing active hydrogen and therefore must be kept under a blanket of inert gas. /Aluminum alkyls/
Very low, even at 1000 deg C
Oral-human TDL0: 21 mg/kg; Oral-rat TDL0: 10 mg/kg
Inflammable in water; flammable and highly toxic phosphine gas in the air and in acid and water
Garlic odor

Aluminum phosphide Use and Manufacturing
In the synthesis method, the red phosphorus and the aluminum powder are evenly mixed according to the ratio of ingredients and then ignited and burned. The reaction produces aluminum phosphide. After the reaction product is crushed, a slow-release agent ammonium carbamate and a binder are added. After mixing, the tablet is prepared to obtain aluminum phosphide. Finished product. Its Pa+4Al→4AlP
Source of phosphine; in semiconductor research; as fumigant.
