Description

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Blue or emerald-green crystalline material. Toxic and carcinogenic. Two known phases. Alpha-form (blue tetragonal) converts to beta-form (green monoclinic) at 127.9°F. Becomes blue and opaque at room temperature. Odorless. Sweet astringent taste. Somewhat efflorescent. Greenish-yellow anhydrous salt is formed at 536°F. (NTP, 1992)

Nickel sulfate hexahydrate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

In the nickel metal method, water is added to the reactor, and then sulfuric acid is added to make 30°Bé, then nickel metal is added, and nitric acid is added in portions to carry out the reaction. When the reaction concentration reaches 48-50°Bé, crystallize and filter, wash the crude crystals with water and dissolve to 30°Bé with water, then add barium carbonate to neutralize the free acid, and then add hydrogen peroxide to oxidize the divalent iron and hydrolyze. After the purified solution is clarified, a small amount of sulfuric acid is added to adjust the pH to 3 to 4, and then concentrated and crystallized, and centrifugally dehydrated to obtain nickel sulfate. Its 3Ni+8HNO3→3Ni(NO3)2+2NO↑+4H2ONi(NO3)2+H2SO4→NiSO4+2HNO3 recovery process, the electrolytic waste liquid is purified, crystallized and dehydrated during copper smelting to obtain nickel sulfate. Nickel sulfate is prepared from nickel-containing waste liquid that produces cobalt. First, nickel carbonate is precipitated from the spent nickel sulfate solution produced by cobalt salt with soda ash solution, and then nickel carbonate is dissolved in sulfuric acid to prepare nickel sulfate. Its NiSO4+Na2CO3→NiCO3+Na2SO4NiCO3+H2SO4→NiSO4+H20+CO2↑
