Introduction: Botanicals are regulated differently around the world either as drugs, health foods or dietary supplements. Several of the botanicals from the TCM are used as health foods in China and as dietary supplements in the United States and other countries, based on the claimed -intended use- of those products. This one-day workshop will discuss the value of USP and ChP public standards in helping assure the quality, safety and purported efficacy of the botanical dietary supplements, health foods and herbal medicines (DSHM) in the global supply chain through transparent science-based standards. Stakeholder input will be collected from trade associations, industry and academia to identify the needs and challenges related to current topics.
