BASF's third largest integrated productionsite in the world is located in Guangdong
On September 15, after more than four yearsof hard work, BASF Group and China Chemical Engineering Group signed aconstruction partnership framework agreement in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province,to jointly promote the construction of BASF's Zhanjiang integration baseproject.
The total investment amounts to 10 billion euros, which is equivalent tofive Tesla super factories, and is the largest foreign investment ever made byBASF. It is expected to be fully completed in 2030, and after it is put intooperation, Zhanjiang, Guangdong will become BASF's third largest integratedproduction base in the world.
BASF's headquarters in Ludwigshafen on the Rhine remains the world'slargest chemical products base by area, while BASF's second largest plant islocated in the Belgian port city of Antwerp.
As we can learn from public information, the Zhanjiang project will inthe future produce not only conventional organic chemical feedstock productssuch as ethylene, but also several downstream production units for the consumermarket.
Among them, production of 60,000 tons per year of newly addedengineering plastics has already begun, and another set of thermoplasticpolyurethane projects (TPU) will be operational in 2023 to meet the growingdemand from industries such as automotive and electronics.
