The mass is approximately 12 amu but it can be calculated by subtracting 4 protons from 12 protons since the atomic number is 6. Carbon-12 can exist in several different forms: graphite, diamond and elemental carbon.

Plant life has a vast range of different compounds that are made out of carbon such as sugars, starches, cellulose and lignins. Trees absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and turn it into these compounds through the production of photosynthesis.

Light bulbs are made of a carbon filament that is wrapped around an electrical current. Light bulbs measure 4-30 volts and they are on all the time but their voltage can be adjusted or switched off completely in order to conserve energy.

3. It is used to make candles

Candles are made of a wick that is constructed from carbon and they are ignited by melting wax. Sometimes the wick can be made of cotton and the candle is dipped in a melted wax. The wax then sets and hardens around the wick, which may have some air pockets, adding to the size and purity of the flame when it reappears.

4. It is used to make carbon paper for typewriters as well as faxes and we now even use it in tablets for notes on them.
