Vitamin K affects the prognosis of the COVID-19, California plum demand surges
Previously, Dutch scientists found that reasonable supplementation of vitamin K can improve the prognosis of COVID-19. California plum industry is busy coping with the surge in demand for dried plums.
Prunes contain vitamin K and a range of other vitamins, minerals, and fiber to support overall health and immune system health.
A Dutch study published in the journal "Preprints" showed that vitamin K content affects the breakdown of tissue fibers (including elastin), which are associated with lung diseases. Vitamin K plays a role in producing proteins that regulate blood clotting. Researchers encourage reasonable intake of vitamin K, except for the use of blood clotting drugs.
Represented by the California Plum Association (CPB), this year's plum growers and packagers ushered in increased demand. CPB said that compared with 2019, California’s exports of prunes to the United Kingdom increased by 10%, exports to Germany’s prunes increased by 7%, and the Polish market increased by a substantial 87%. Japanese consumers also started to hoard goods, and exports increased by 14%.
As new research further points out the importance of vitamin K, the California plum industry is expected to further increase global exports.
