How to make CuSO4 and its properties.

1.Hydrolysis

This can be done by putting 0.5 mole of copper (ii) sulphate dissolved in cold water into a flask containing 1.5 moles of hydrogen, and adding the mixture to a mixture of water and sulfuric acid with a pH of 9. After adding the mixture to acid, copper oxide precipitates from the solution, and is known as copper(II) oxide .This product can then be used for further processing. One method to make CuSO4 is to let the copper oxide react with carbon monoxide gas. The reaction that takes place is,

CoO + CO → CuCO + O. This reaction can be done at a temperature of 300K and at a pressure of 2,000 atmospheres. When using this method however, it is very important to keep the temperature low, because too much heat can cause a violent explosion. If instead of carbon monoxide gas, steam gas is used as the oxidizer, then the product will be copper(I) oxide. The chemical formula for this product is CuO. This explains how to make CuSO4.

The thixotropy property of this chemical shows that it can form a viscous paste with water, but the viscosity depends greatly on how much water is added to the paste.

2. Solubility in Water

This chemical compound is slightly soluble in water at room temperature, but more soluble when the solution is cooled to below 32 degrees Celsius. This chemical compound can be precipitated by adding a stronger acid to the solution than sulfuric acid, usually hydrochloric acid (HCl) or hydrobromic acid (HBr) . This chemical also has a concentration dependency when reacted with hydrogen gas. The more hydrogen consists in the reaction mixture, the lower concentration of this chemical in final product.

3. Solubility in other chemical Solvents

This product is soluble in a variety of chemical solvents. This product can react with carbon dioxide, hydrochloric acid, and ethanol. This means that this chemical compound can be used to detect the presence of carbon dioxide, hydrochloric acid and ethanol by adding it to solutions containing these chemicals. It also has a variety of uses in the food industry, such as an additive in the preservation of fruit or as an emulsifier in dairy products. This chemical compound also has an interesting property of dissolving in liquid ammonia, which is why this chemical compound is used as a refrigerant to lower the temperature in liquefied ammonia.

4. Reactions with other Solutions

This chemical compound reacts very quickly with water, and can be used over and over again for the same purpose or to create other compounds that contain copper. This chemical compound forms a very viscous solution when reacted with certain metals and acids such as sodium carbonate and lime, but it can easily be removed from these solutions by adding strong base to it.
