Pharmexcil to Organise iPHEX Expo in New Delhi from May 8

Chemical Weekly 2018-05-09

The Pharmaceuticals and Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) is organising its annual flagship event ‘iPHEX’ in New Delhi between May 8 and 10 even as the government is looking at ways to recapture the growth momentum for Indian pharmaceutical exporters.

Pharmexcil, working under the aegis of the Commerce Ministry, is the apex organisation representing more than half of the $33-bn pharma industry, is seeking to reach out to global buyers and regulators in key markets including the US and Europe at the iPHEX expo.

About $17-bn exports form a major part of the Indian pharmaceutical industry’s turnover of about $33-bn. The country has built a global brand as ‘Pharmacy of the world’ with about 930 recognised pharmacy colleges, 1400 WHO GMP approved manufacturing units, and highest number of USFDA approved plants outside USA. However, due to a combination of factors the export growth has been rather lacklustre in the last couple of years.

“We will make the best use of our annual event, to be inaugurated by Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Suresh Prabhu, to engage with the buyers, distributors and regulators. Several key regulators will make presentations before the exporting firms about the fastmoving changes in compliance parameters and stricter specifications. This would help our exporters to upscale their quality and other standards,” said Mr. Ravi Uday Bhaskar, Director General of the Pharmexcil.

About 350 exhibitors and 600 overseas buyers along with regulators from 120 countries are expected to participate in the event.
