Asian Paints Reports Strong Domestic Growth and Margin Improvement in Q1 FY'2024
Asian Paints, one of the leading paint companies in India, recently announced its financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2023. The company reported a double-digit volume growth in its domestic Decorative business, which was supported by a relatively healthy value growth. The Auto OE and General Industrial coating businesses also achieved strong double-digit revenue growth, led by the Protective & Powder Coatings segment. However, the international portfolio witnessed subdued growth due to continued macroeconomic challenges and adverse forex conditions in Asian markets.
In terms of Home Decor, categories like fabrics, decorative lighting, and UPVC doors & windows maintained their high growth trajectory. However, the Kitchen and Bath business segments were sluggish. Despite this, the company recorded significant improvement in margins, both sequentially as well as on a year-on-year basis, aided by strong efforts on driving operational, formulation, and sourcing efficiencies. The easing inflation in raw material prices also supported margin improvement.
For Q1 FY’2024, Asian Paints' consolidated net sales increased by 6.7% to ₹9,153.8 crores ($1.118 billion) as compared to ₹8,578.9 crores. The company reported an improvement in gross margins by 530 basis points in Q1 FY’24 as compared to Q1 FY’23. The Profit before depreciation, interest, tax, other income, and exceptional items (PBDIT) also witnessed a significant increase of 36.3% to ₹2,121.3 crores from ₹1,556.0 crores.
On a standalone basis, Asian Paints' net sales increased by 7.0% to ₹8,084.9 crores from ₹7,555.8 crores. The gross margins also witnessed an improvement of 550 basis points in Q1 FY’24 as compared to Q1 FY’23. The PBDIT for the quarter increased by 36.7% to ₹1,999.8 crores from ₹1,462.6 crores.
Looking ahead, Asian Paints remains focused on pursuing growth and is confident about a robust festival season ahead. The company's improvement in margins and strong efforts on driving operational, formulation, and sourcing efficiencies are likely to support its growth prospects in the coming quarters.
